UPDATE! NEW CAMPAIGN INITIATIVE. WE ARE
CALLING UPON SHOPPING CENTRES AND MALLS TO ADOPT A FUR FREE POLICY.
PLEASE CLICK HERE
FOR MORE.
The fur free south campaign is brought to you by the Southern
Animal Rights Coalition and in collaboration with the Western
Animal Rights Network's fur free west campaign, and the Northern
Animal Rights Network's, fur
free north campaign. The
campaign is aimed at informing the public of the shocking reality behind
the fur trade, and encouraging ethical consumer practice.
Fur farming was banned in the UK in 2001, due to public pressure, although
fur is still imported into the country. Some retailera claim that rabbit
fur is a by product of the meat industry. This is untrue. Different
types of rabbit are used, the conditions they are kept in are different,
and the time and method of slaughter are altered. Fur is worth more
than meat, and if anything, rabbit meat is a by product of the fur industry.
Unfortunately, due to the ban on fur farms, many people believe that
all fur on sale in the UK is fake. Poor labeling, dyed furs and careful
stitching adds to this myth. With your help, we aim to ensure that myth
becomes fact.
If you would like to help to rid fur from the south and join in with
letter writing and e-mail campaigns, please check out the action
section of this site. Here you will find a list of “Highstreet
Heroes”. This is a definitive list of fur free stores in the
region, giving you an ethical consumer choice. We
also have a list of “Villains”
on our site, for companies who are happy to stock fur. We urge you to
boycott these stores, and request that they change their ethical policies.
You can also be a fur detective and contact
us if you see any fur in your area!
