home > rabbit fur
| Most fur available on the UK market comes from rabbits. One of the reasons that it is bein accepted by some is that fur promoters often claim that rabbit fur is a by-product of the meat industry. However, the evidence points strongly to the contrary. The bottom line is that fur is worth more than meat. In most cases meat is a by-product of the fur trade. Meat rabbits are killed at 10-12 weeks, whereas rabbits bred for fur are killed several months later after they have shed their first coat. The quality of fur from meat rabbits is therefore deemed inadequate for most fur products. If you see scarves, boots or toys which you think are trimmed, or made from, fur, it is likely to be from rabbits. Please report them to us, and urge the shop to stop selling them. |
